Praia do Paraíso, right now
Praia do Paraíso is a small cove tucked under the cliffs on the western side of Carvoeiro, a few minutes on foot from the village centre. Steep steps lead down between high walls of ochre rock to a compact wedge of sand, with stacks and worn formations giving the cove its character. Its position so close to Carvoeiro makes it the natural escape when the village beach is full, though it is small enough to fill in its own right on peak days. The water is usually calm in the shelter of the cliffs. It suits couples and small groups staying in Carvoeiro, and anyone who prefers their coves steep-sided and enclosed.
