Praia do Carvoeiro is the small beach at the heart of Carvoeiro, a sandy cove with the whitewashed village rising on the cliffs either side. The old fishing settlement grew around this natural amphitheatre, and the sand still meets the village square directly, with boats drawn up as they have been for generations. Local skippers run trips from the beach along the cave-riddled coast towards Benagil. The cove is compact and fills early on summer days, but the setting, houses stacked above the sand on both slopes, is one of the Algarve's most recognisable. It suits families staying in the village, boat-trippers, and anyone happy with a small beach in exchange for the scene around it.
