Praia de Vale Centianes, right now
Praia de Vale de Centeanes is a cliff-hemmed cove east of Carvoeiro, at the trailhead of the Seven Hanging Valleys walking route. A long staircase drops from the clifftop to a beach enclosed by high, banded walls of sandstone, with a large rock overhang shading part of the sand. From the top, the Percurso dos Sete Vales Suspensos runs east along the cliffs to Praia da Marinha, one of the best-known coastal walks in Portugal. Low tide opens up the sand considerably, while high tide presses it back against the rock. It suits walkers pairing the trail with a swim, and families who do not mind the stairs.
