Cacela Velha

A hamlet of a church, a fort and a handful of whitewashed houses on a bluff above the eastern tip of the Ria Formosa. Below it, oyster beds and a white sandbar shift with the tide in water that turns a bright lagoon green on clear days. It is one of the great simple views of the Algarve, and at low tide you can cross the channel to an almost empty beach.
