Ares e Mares brings together oil paintings by J. Eduardo, a self-taught artist and former pilot whose work returns again and again to the sea and landscape of the Algarve. The show opens with a reception on 6 August at the Sala de Exposições Temporárias Manuel Gamboa, inside Lagoa's Centro Cultural Convento de São José. The paintings range across coastal scenes and open countryside, built up in the loose, weather-conscious style of an artist who spent years looking at the region from the air before turning to canvas. It is a small, free show rather than a blockbuster, well suited to a quiet visit during a stay in Lagoa. The exhibition stays up for nearly two months, giving visitors through the rest of the summer and into early autumn plenty of chances to see it. Entry is free during the centre's normal opening hours.
