Sand City

Sand City is a large open-air sand sculpture exhibition, on the EN 125 between Lagoa and Porches, at Sitio dos Lombos 252-A in Lagoa. It carries on the legacy of FIESA, the International Sculpture Festival founded in 2003 near Pêra, which relocated to the current Lagoa site and relaunched under the Sand City name after more than two decades running as FIESA. The 2026 exhibition covers more than 120 sand sculptures across roughly 50,000 square metres (about 5 hectares) of grounds, made by more than 60 Portuguese and international artists. Visitors can explore on foot or rent an electric buggy, try a free sand-sculpting activity in an on-site dome, use the fish-spa foot treatment, and stop at the snack bar (open roughly June or July through November) or the souvenir shop. The site is pet-friendly (on a lead, muzzled if required) and offers free buggy access on request for visitors with reduced mobility, alongside more than 300 free parking spaces. Opening hours for 2026 run from 25 March to 28 June (10:00 to 19:00), 29 June to 13 September (10:00 to 23:00) and 14 September to 15 November (10:00 to 19:00), with last entry 30 minutes before closing. Tickets are sold online with a 10 percent discount: adults aged 13 to 64 cost EUR 11.90, children aged 6 to 12 cost EUR 5.90, children under 6 enter free, and seniors aged 65 and over cost EUR 9.50. A family pack (2 adults plus 2 children) costs EUR 29.90 at the on-site ticket office. Groups of 10 or more get a 10 percent discount. Prices include 6 percent VAT.
