British-Curriculum Schools in the Algarve

Curated by Algarve Circle

For families moving to the Algarve, schooling is usually the first question and the one with the most riding on it. The good news: the region has a genuine spread of British-curriculum options, from a two-campus institution that has been teaching here since 1972 to small independent schools where classes are capped at twelve. The nine below cover the whole map, the wild west coast at Aljezur through Lagos, Almancil and Loule to Tavira in the east, and the whole journey, nursery through iGCSEs to A-Levels, the International Baccalaureate and BTEC. Every listing links directly to the school, so you can go from reading to arranging a visit in one step.

The region's most established name, teaching in Lagoa since 1972 and now also at a newer, purpose-built campus in Almancil. Both follow the National Curriculum for England to IGCSE; from there Lagoa offers A-Levels or BTEC (plus a parallel Portuguese curriculum), while Almancil offers the IB Diploma or BTEC.
