Montalvo International School

Montalvo International School was established in 2023 by director and founder Walter Montalvo Martinez Lopes Mendonça, who has taught in the Algarve since 2016 and helped found another school in 2019. The school teaches from a building in the historic centre of Loulé that dates back to the 1890s, deliberately choosing the town's cultural heritage and busy Saturday market as part of the learning environment. Montalvo currently teaches upper secondary students, Years 9 to 13, working towards iGCSEs and then AS/A Levels on the British curriculum. Class sizes are kept small and the school describes its intake as a narrow age range so pupils study alongside close peers. Its multicultural teaching team includes staff with backgrounds in the UK, South Africa, Egypt and Latin America, covering subjects from Mathematics and the sciences to Drama, Arabic and Spanish. The school positions its Loulé premises as a dedicated study hub for examination years, with quiet study rooms alongside teaching space, and plans to grow into a wider Centre of Excellence for Years 9 to 13.
