Galeria Meinke Flesseman

Galeria Meinke Flesseman is a painter's own gallery on Rua Infante Dom Henrique in the historic centre of Portimao, showing the work of Dutch artist Meinke Flesseman, who was brought up in the Algarve and studied fine art at the Lorenzo de' Medici academy, in Moscow, and at the Ruud Wackers academy in Amsterdam. Her paintings build up layered, textured canvases with sweeping, confident brushstrokes, and her focus has moved over the years from quiet land and seascapes towards busy, eclectic scenes of animals and people. Flesseman has exhibited across the Algarve and beyond since the late 1990s, including shows at the Convento Sao Jose in Lagoa, the Armazem Regimental in Lagos, Hotel Alvor, Mare d'Arte in Carvoeiro, a gallery in Vale do Lobo, the Centro Cultural Sao Lourenco, the Palacio Sotto Mayor in Lisbon, Galeria Corte Real and the Maltby Gallery in Winchester, UK, and her work has been covered by titles including Publico's Fugas, Monocle, Forbes, Essential Magazine and The Culture Trip. The Portimao gallery is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10am to 1pm, with visits outside those hours available by appointment. The same historic building also houses Casa Melchior, two self-catering holiday houses that Flesseman runs separately from the gallery.
