Alma Luz Distillery

Alma Luz is what happens when three friends from Praia da Luz decide their homeland deserves its own gin. Jodi, João and Carl grew up together in the western Algarve, bonded over surfing and the region's food culture, and turned decades of what they call recreational research into a dry gin that captures the soul, the alma, of the place. The gin is distilled with juniper berries, coriander seeds, angelica root, cassia bark and orris root, with botanicals sourced from local farms so the flavour stays genuinely Algarvian. João brings a super-yacht chef's palate for flavour, Jodi and Carl years behind the bar, and the result is a gin made to stand on its own and to lift the food it is poured alongside. The awards agree: winner at The Gin Guide Awards in 2022 and 2024, Best in Portugal both years, and a Global Gin Masters Gold in 2024. Bottles are available from the online shop, and around bars and tables across the Algarve.
