Quarteira
Unlike its purpose-built neighbors, Quarteira is a real Portuguese resort town. Famous for its palm-lined promenade (Calçadão), massive weekly market, and one of the freshest fish markets in the region. It offers a lively, unpretentious atmosphere popular with Portuguese families and long-stay visitors.

Praia de Quarteira, right now
Praia de Quarteira is a town beach in the fullest sense, long golden sand divided by stone groynes and fronted by Quarteira's seafront promenade. The groynes break the beach into a series of calm, sheltered sections, each with easy access from the calçadão, the tiled promenade that runs the length of the front. Quarteira grew from a fishing town and keeps a working, everyday Portuguese feel that the purpose-built resorts nearby do not have. The sand is wide, flat and simple to reach. It suits families with young children, older visitors who want level access, and anyone who likes their beach with town life attached.
