Meia Praia, right now
Meia Praia is Lagos's longest beach, four kilometres of flat golden sand curving east from the marina towards the Ria de Alvor. Where the coves south of town feel enclosed by cliffs, Meia Praia is open and airy, backed by low dunes and the railway line rather than rock. The sand shelves gently into the sea, and the western end is a short walk from the town centre across the footbridge by the marina. Steady breezes over the eastern half have made it a recognised spot for kitesurfing and sailing. Even in August, a few minutes' walk along the shore finds space. It suits families who want level, easy access, long-distance walkers, and anyone drawn to wind-powered watersports.
