Fóia
The roof of the Algarve: 902 metres up in the Serra de Monchique, above the woods and terraced valleys of the range. On a clear day the view runs from the cliffs at Cabo de São Vicente along the coast to the hills behind Faro, and it is reliably cooler up here than at sea level. The road up from Monchique town passes viewpoints, eucalyptus and the last cork oaks before the open summit.
