What to expect
For divers of all levels, Divespot Portugal runs small-group dives on the reef in Armação de Pera Bay, described on the operator's own site as the largest natural reef in Portugal and home to the Algarve's highest concentration of marine life, with more than 1,300 recorded species. Sightings include gorgonian gardens, schools of wrasse, conger eels, gobies, camouflaged octopus and colourful nudibranchs.
Divespot's own research has fed directly into the creation of the Algarve Reef Marine Nature Park at Pedra do Valado, a marine protected area now in effect to safeguard the reef, and the centre works with equipment brands including Scubapro and Halcyon.
