Albufeira
The region's tourist capital offers two distinct faces: the high-energy nightlife of "The Strip" and the charming, cobbled streets of the Old Town. Home to vast, golden sandy beaches.
Praia dos Olhos de Água, east of Albufeira, is named for the freshwater springs that bubble up through the sand and rocks at low tide. The springs, the eyes of water that give the village its name, appear as the tide drops, along with a shelf of rock that pools and channels the sea. This was a fishing village before it was a resort, and boats are still drawn up on the sand. Red cliffs frame both ends of the bay, and the beach itself is compact, filling quickly in summer. It suits families, low-tide explorers and anyone curious to see a small oddity of geology on an otherwise classic Algarve beach.
