Praia da Oura is a broad sandy beach below the Areias de São João district of eastern Albufeira, with ochre cliffs closing each end of the bay. The name translates roughly as beach of gold, which fits the colour of both the sand and the rock. It is reached down the hill from one of Albufeira's busiest quarters, with ramp and step access at several points, and the bay shelves gently into usually calm water. Rock outcrops mark the boundaries with the neighbouring beaches. Its scale means it absorbs summer numbers better than the smaller coves nearby. It suits families staying on the eastern side of Albufeira and anyone who wants a big, easy, central stretch of sand.
