Praia da Luz
A Praia da Luz desenha-se em curva numa baía abrigada, dez minutos a poente de Lagos, rematada na ponta nascente pela Rocha Negra, um promontório de rocha vulcânica escura que dá à praia o seu pano de fundo mais reconhecível. A povoação é habitada há muito tempo: junto à frente-mar, ao lado da igreja, há vestígios romanos, incluindo antigos tanques de salga de peixe e termas, e a pequena fortaleza da marginal foi erguida contra os ataques dos corsários. A Luz moderna é uma estância familiar com uma comunidade internacional enraizada: construção baixa, tudo a pé, um passeio marginal com palmeiras ao longo da praia, operadores de desportos náuticos na baía no verão e cafés e restaurantes que ficam abertos pelo inverno fora. A praia mistura areia e lajes de rocha plana, com mar calmo na maior parte dos dias e paddles e caiaques a contornar os promontórios. A subida à Rocha Negra paga-se com uma vista ao longo da costa até Lagos, e o trilho da arriba segue para poente até ao Burgau. Lagos, com o centro histórico e a marina, fica à distância de um fim de tarde. A Luz é para famílias e para quem fica meses: banhos seguros, caminhadas fáceis e uma terra que funciona tão bem em janeiro como em julho.
