Start with something to burn energy
Little ones do far better if they move first. A morning at a riding school, or an open green space just outside the walls, takes the edge off before you hit the narrow streets.
Somewhere to eat without a meltdown
The trick in the old town is picking a place that genuinely welcomes children: highchairs, a relaxed room, and food that arrives before patience runs out.
Insider tips
- Go early. The old town is calmest and coolest before 11am.
- Park once at the riverfront and walk in. Driving inside the walls with kids is not worth it.
- Build in an ice-cream stop. It buys you another half-hour of happy walking.
