Horse Riding
Inland from the resorts, the Algarve is still riding country: cork oak forest, orange groves, salt marsh and long empty beaches in the east. The stables here run guided trail rides for everyone from first-timers on steady schoolmasters to experienced riders who want a proper canter.
Rides typically run one to two hours with small groups and a guide; several stables run sunset rides and, seasonally, beach rides where local rules allow. Most welcome children on ponies or led rides.

Before you book
Can complete beginners join a trail ride?
Yes. Stables match horses to riders and keep beginner rides at a walk with a guide alongside. Say honestly how much you have ridden when booking; it decides which horse you get.
Are beach rides allowed in the Algarve?
Only in certain places and seasons, mostly on the quieter eastern and western beaches outside the summer bathing season. Stables that offer them run them legally within those windows, so dates are limited and worth booking ahead.
