Volta a Portugal à Vela, one of the toughest offshore races on the Portuguese sailing calendar, takes its cruiser-class fleet down the entire coast: eight legs from Viana do Castelo through Porto, Figueira da Foz, Cascais, Lisbon and Sines before finishing at Marina de Portimão. The 2026 edition, organised by the Federação Portuguesa de Vela, sails between 25 July and 1 August. Marina de Portimão hosts the finish and prize-giving, when crews come in after a week racing the length of the country. It is free to walk the marina and watch the fleet arrive and dock, and the atmosphere around the pontoons builds as boats finish. Exact arrival times on the final day depend on wind and conditions, so it is worth checking the marina or the Federação Portuguesa de Vela's channels closer to the date for the finish schedule.
