About this event

The Prova de Mar de Lagoa is one of the fixed stops on the Circuito de Águas Abertas do Algarve, held off Praia Grande in Ferragudo on 9 August. It runs from 09:00 to 16:00 and covers three separate races: the main open water swim for federated swimmers, a shorter divulgação swim open to anyone, and a 200m kids' race, the Prova de Mar Kids, for younger swimmers. Named after Jorge Lamy, the event is organised by the Município de Lagoa with the local swim club and the Federação Portuguesa de Natação, and it is free to watch from the beach. Registration for swimmers closes a few days before, with no sign ups on the day. With the kids' race alongside the main event, it works as a family morning at the beach as much as a serious swimming fixture.
