37th Festa do Frango da Guia (Chicken Festival)

Guia, the village that put piri-piri chicken on the map, throws its biggest party of the year at the Polidesportivo from 29 July to 2 August. Long tables fill with grilled chicken and chips, and the grounds open at 7pm each night with a different local act on stage: Rosinha and the duo Emanuel e Tania open, followed on the next nights by Elena Correia and Marco Filipe, Roni de Melo and Ruben Filipe, Belito Campos and Valter Cabrita, and a closing night with Joana D'Arc and a return from Emanuel e Tania. Outside, the 18th Handicraft Exhibition lines the square with stalls selling regional crafts and produce. The festival is organised by Guia Futebol Clube with the Junta de Freguesia da Guia and the Municipality of Albufeira, and it draws locals and visitors from across the Barlavento for what regulars call the tastiest week of the Algarve summer.
