Associação Comadres, a non-profit near Aljezur that runs a shelter for women and children leaving domestic abuse, holds its Autumn Festival at Fazenda Compadres in Alfambras from Wednesday 28 October to Sunday 1 November.
There are kids arts and crafts, a second-hand shop for winter clothes, a plant sale, a tea and chocolate bar and a donkey and pony area. Live music and dancing run alongside herbalism, mushroom and holistic health workshops, and there are Samhain and Día de los Muertos gatherings.
The festival includes a 5k/10k race, a fun run and a walk. There are no chips and no recorded times: you choose your distance on the day, and first and last place both get a prize. Entry is 25 euros, places are limited to 50 runners and registration is open until 25 October through the link in the Comadres Instagram bio (@wearecomadres). The race day and start time will be added here as soon as Comadres confirms them.
Comadres is also looking for volunteers for the second-hand shop, the plant sale, kids activities and the kitchen. Every part of the festival supports their work.
