For five nights from 26 to 30 August, Castro Marim's hilltop castle and the Forte de Sao Sebastiao below it turn into a full medieval town for the 27th Dias Medievais, one of the biggest historical recreations on the Portuguese calendar. Expect jousting tournaments, street theatre, fire performers, falconry displays, Arab Iberian music and dance, and a market of period arts and crafts spread through the streets. The Forte de Sao Sebastiao hosts a parallel recreation of civil and military life from the Restoration era, with costumed demonstrations through the day. After dark, torch lit medieval banquets are held in a dedicated space within the walls, with a menu built around period dishes and live entertainment. Single day tickets covering the market, fort and castle cost 8 euros for adults and 5 euros for children aged 6 to 11, with under 6s free; a 5 day adult pass costs 16 euros. Market only and castle only tickets are also available at lower prices.
