The inaugural Algarve Marathon takes over Marina de Vilamoura on 6 December 2026 — much more than a race, it is a celebration of the region built around four distances for every kind of runner: the full 42K marathon, a 21K half marathon, a 10K run and a 5K walk. The flat, fast course runs along the Vilamoura marina and coastline, with legendary Portuguese distance runners Carlos Lopes and Aurora Cunha as its patron and matron. Organised by GlobalSport with the support of Visit Portugal, Visit Algarve, Vilamoura World and Loulé Town Council, the December date is designed to show off the Algarve as a year-round, active destination. Registration is open now for all four distances.
