Salty Wave Surf School

Salty Wave Surf School teaches surfing at Praia da Luz, a sheltered south-facing beach ten minutes from Lagos. The school was founded in Porto in 2004 as Godzilla Surf School and relaunched on the Algarve in 2014 by founder Rodrigo "Godzilla" Lacerda, a Level II surf coach (FPS/IPDJ) with Surf and Rescue certification and more than 20 years of teaching behind him. It is the only surf school operating in both Porto and the Algarve, and has been named Best Surf School in Portugal by BeyondSurfing four years running. Group lessons are for ages 14 and up and run in small groups of no more than eight students per instructor, with around two and a half hours in the water. A single day costs EUR 60 to EUR 65 depending on the season, a five-day pack EUR 250 to EUR 275, and a sunset session EUR 65. Private coaching starts at EUR 160 for one surfer. Equipment hire is also available: EUR 20 per day for a surfboard, EUR 25 for a hybrid and EUR 30 for a longboard, always with a wetsuit included. The base is inside the Algarvesportland Surf Shop at Rua Direita 101a in Luz, with pick-ups from Lagos, Luz and Burgau. The school runs year round, and cancellations up to 48 hours before a lesson are refunded in full. Salty Wave also organises surf camps and retreats for groups on a quote basis.
