Morgado do Quintão

Morgado do Quintão is a family-owned vineyard estate between Silves and Lagoa, founded in the early 1810s by the 1st Count of Silves, Francisco Manuel Pereira Caldas. The estate has stayed in the same family for four generations and came to its current custodians in 2017 from Teresa Pereira Caldas de Vasconcellos, an experimental contemporary artist and professor. The winery released its first vintage in 2016 and has grown production from around 2,000 to 20,000 bottles a year, working with indigenous grapes such as Negra Mole and Crato Branco alongside historic varieties Palhete and Clarete. The wines have won the Revista de Vinhos award for Best Wine in Portugal, Algarve category, in two separate years, and the estate's grapes are also served in Michelin starred restaurants abroad. Winemaker Joana Maçanita follows a "less is more" approach in the cellar. Guests can stay in the estate's restored vineyard cottages and caretaker's lodgings, book a wine tasting or vineyard tour, or join the Farmer's Table, a shared meal built from local ingredients and paired with a flight of estate wines. Morgado do Quintão also hosts weddings and, in winter, a free Art of Pruning day where visitors learn vine pruning technique alongside the estate's winemaking team. The estate is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 21:30 and closed at weekends.
