Praia da Ilha de Tavira is the main beach of Tavira's barrier island, reached by a short ferry crossing from Quatro Águas outside the town. The island carries some eleven kilometres of sand along its ocean side, all of it within the Ria Formosa natural park, and the ferry from Quatro Águas lands you a short walk from the widest part of it. Dunes back the beach, the water shelves gently by east Algarve standards, and walking away from the landing quickly finds quiet sand. It suits families, walkers, and anyone who likes a beach day that starts with a boat.
