Sagres hosts the 17th edition of Portugal's biggest birdwatching festival from 2 to 5 October 2026. Each autumn the Sagres peninsula becomes the country's main crossing point for migratory birds heading to Africa, and the festival packs those four days with more than 160 activities: guided field trips, boat trips, short courses, bird-ringing and monitoring sessions, and environmental-education workshops for all ages. The secretariat is traditionally based at Forte do Beliche, between Sagres village and Cape St Vincent, where participants collect the wristbands that give access to activities. The full programme was released on 5 August and registration opens on 2 September at birdwatchingsagres.com. The 2025 edition drew around 1,300 nature lovers, and highlights announced for 2026 include sightings as rare as the common merganser. Book activities early: the most popular boat and field trips fill quickly.
