The Museu Municipal de Faro, at Largo Dom Afonso III, is hosting a partnership exhibition with the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga (MNAA) in Lisbon, on show from 30 May to 4 October 2026. Around 50 paintings from the MNAA travel to Faro, joined by around a dozen pieces from the municipal collection. The exhibition traces roughly five centuries of landscape painting, from Baltazar Gomes Figueira and Josefa de Ayala's Mes de Abril to Vieira Portuense's Leda e o Cisne and international names such as Joos de Momper II and Jules Dupre, exploring how artists have represented nature and space over time. It is a rare chance to see national collection masterpieces outside Lisbon, staged in one of the Algarve's oldest museum buildings.
