Tavira's town centre hosts the 12th Feira da Dieta Mediterranica from 3 to 6 September 2026, organised by the municipality with the Algarve tourism region, the University of the Algarve and local hospitality schools. The fair celebrates the Mediterranean Diet's status as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, with Tavira recognised as one of its representative communities. Local restaurants, cafes and pastry shops take part with menus built around breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner proposals inspired by the diet, using seasonal, local ingredients. Alongside the food, the programme usually includes talks, tastings and activities exploring the diet's cultural roots in the region.
