The Museu Municipal de Faro is showing around seventy works from the private collection of Miguel Duarte, an Algarve physician who spent decades gathering Portuguese art, on display from 7 March to 20 September 2026. Pieces from fellow Algarve collector Hugo Batalha's collection are also included. Curated by art historian Raquel Henriques da Silva, the exhibition moves chronologically through Naturalism, Modernism and Surrealism, with works by Silva Porto, Marques de Oliveira, Aurelia de Souza, Joao Vaz, Falcao Trigoso, Antonio Soares, Julio Santos and Bernardo Marques, among others. It is a rare public showing of a collection previously known mainly to the doctor's patients, offering a survey of two centuries of Portuguese painting in one room.
