The Algarve does beach bars by the hundred, but a proper beach club, the kind with a restaurant worth staying for and service to your sunbed, is rarer than the brochures suggest. These six are the ones on our books that genuinely qualify, laid out west to east so you can pick by where you are staying. Between them they cover most moods: a 20-year institution on Praia da Rocha, a westward-facing newcomer in Ferragudo with its own vineyard, two very different takes on Praia de Vilamoura, a 30-year veteran between Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo, and a five-star hotel beach club on the Guadiana riverfront. Book ahead in July and August, all of them fill.
Why we picked it
The Praia da Rocha stalwart, marking its 20th anniversary in 2026. Beach, pool, restaurant and bar in one spot by the marina.
Why we picked it
Opened in late 2023 on Pintadinho beach in Ferragudo and built to hold up next to the view: cocktail bar, wine from its own vineyard, and a westward aspect made for the end of the day.
Why we picked it
The Dom Pedro group’s seaside restaurant and bar on Praia de Vilamoura, with beach-tent food and drink service brought to your sunbed.
Why we picked it
The other side of Praia de Vilamoura: an oriental-inspired beach lounge, contemporary restaurant, beachside juice and cocktail bar, and a rooftop for the evening, with live music on Sundays.
Why we picked it
More than 30 years on Praia do Garrão, from beach shack to glass-fronted restaurant and rooftop bar. Sea views by day, sunsets by night, between Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo.
Why we picked it
The eastern outlier: the Grand Beach Club of Vila Real de Santo António’s first five-star hotel, a restored 1926 Belle Époque building on the Guadiana riverfront.
