Villa Termal Caldas de Monchique Spa Resort sits in the Serra de Monchique Natural Park and is the only thermal spa resort in the Algarve. The resort is built around Agua de Monchique, a natural mineral water known since Roman times (Latin inscriptions in the region refer to the waters of Mons Cicus as sacred) and, at pH 9.5, one of the most alkaline waters in Portugal. Dining is centred on Restaurant 1692, housed in a former casino building with 19th century stained glass windows and open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, alongside the Alkaline Bar, set inside a structure with stone walls dating from the 13th century and a fireplace.
