Telheiro do Infante

Telheiro do Infante sits directly above Praia da Mareta in Sagres, the beach it takes its name from (mareta once referred to the small clay reservoirs that supplied water to people and livestock in the area). The site's history goes back to 1910, when the great-grandfather of the current owner founded a small brick and clay tile workshop here, drawing on the local clay terrain. The workshop gave way to a simple restaurant in 1976, and a full refurbishment in 1989 created the two-floor building that stands today. The restaurant serves charcoal-grilled fish and shellfish alongside regional Portuguese dishes, with a terrace looking straight out over the bay towards the Sagres headland. It is open Monday and Wednesday to Sunday, 12:00 to 22:30, and closed on Tuesdays. Reservations can be made directly through the restaurant's own website, by phone or by email. Telheiro do Infante is active on Instagram and Facebook, and publishes its menu online. The restaurant sits on Praia da Mareta itself, making it one of the more visible dining spots for visitors walking the beach in Sagres.
