Onyria Palmares Golf

Palmares Golf (formerly marketed as Onyria Palmares) is a 27-hole course set above the ocean at Odiáxere, Lagos, with views over the Alvor Estuary and Lagos Bay. Originally established in the 1970s, the course underwent a full redesign by Robert Trent Jones Jr. into three distinct nine-hole loops that can be played in any combination: Alvor (holes 1-9), with parkland charm, hillside views and tree-lined fairways; Lagos (holes 10-18), mixing parkland and lakes into scenic dunes; and Praia (holes 19-27), pure links golf by the sea with dramatic dunes. The club states that around 90 percent of its tee boxes look out over the Atlantic. Practice facilities include a 300-yard driving range set in a natural valley, short game areas and putting greens. The resident PGA teaching professional, Almerindo Sequeira, has held his PGA Portugal qualification since 1996, has completed the Level IV Golf Coach Professional Course certified by the Portuguese Golf Federation and PGA Europe, and coaches European Tour player Ricardo Santos. The Palmares Clubhouse, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning studio RCR Arquitectes, sits between the bay and the estuary and is the resort's social hub, with a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant (breakfast 7:30-11am, lunch 11am-3pm, snacks 11am-7pm), reception and concierge services, a pro shop, lockers and private parking. Tee times can be booked online through the course's GolfManager system, or by contacting the golf team directly.
