Mar Salgado

Mar Salgado sits directly on the wooden boardwalk of Monte Gordo beach, its dining terrace built out over the sand with the Atlantic a few steps away. The restaurant takes its name from the sea imagery in Fernando Pessoa's poetry, and its glass-fronted dining room and covered terrace are built from the same pale timber as the boardwalk itself, with old photographs of the town's fishing history mounted along the roofline. The kitchen serves grilled fish and seafood alongside grilled meats and salads, in a setting aimed squarely at both lunch on the beach and a longer evening meal watching the sunset over the water. Mar Salgado also sells its own gift vouchers for use at the restaurant. Monte Gordo's beach has been a summer draw for Spanish and Portuguese visitors for decades, and Mar Salgado is one of a handful of restaurants built directly onto its boardwalk rather than set back on the promenade.
