Existir – Associação para a Intervenção e Reabilitação de Populações Deficientes e Desfavorecidas was founded on 14 November 1994 and is based in Loulé. It is a Private Institution of Social Solidarity whose mission is to develop responses tailored to people with disabilities, and to citizens and families facing economic and social hardship, improving their physical, mental and social wellbeing across the Algarve. The association runs several social responses under its Existir brand, including a Banco Solidário (solidarity bank), a Centro de Atividades Ocupacionais (occupational activities centre), a cafeteria, a professional rehabilitation unit for people with disabilities over 16 who are unemployed or inactive, and a Centro de Recursos Locais. It also operates Existir Loja Social (a social shop), Existir Lavandaria (a laundry service) and Existir Formar (training courses), and organises Existir Eventos through the year. Existir is based at Rua Assis Esperança, 7, in Loulé, and welcomes new members and donations through its website.
