Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa – Delegação Faro / Loulé

The Faro-Loule delegation is the local branch of the Portuguese Red Cross (Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa), a national humanitarian organisation with 161 years of history, marked with a commemorative stamp edition in February 2026. Based on Rua Dr. Justino Cumano in Faro, the delegation provides social support, emergency response, health programmes and volunteer training across the Faro and Loule area, alongside a technical aids centre lending wheelchairs, hospital beds, walking frames and other mobility equipment to people who need them. As part of the wider national organisation, the delegation has taken part in recent relief efforts including the January 2026 response to Storm Kristin, when the Red Cross distributed 3,000 tarpaulins and activated mobile shelter structures for people left homeless, and the Projeto Golo initiative launched in April 2026 to support communities affected by storms through football-based community outreach. Its youth programme, Juventude Cruz Vermelha, involves young volunteers in training and community activities, and the delegation also runs a patient transport and emergency medical unit. Residents can get involved by volunteering with the delegation, joining Juventude Cruz Vermelha, borrowing equipment from the technical aids centre, or supporting the organisation's social and emergency response work.
