Amendoeira Golf Resort - Faldo & O'Connor Jnr.

Amendoeira Golf Resort in Alcantarilha is home to two championship 18-hole golf courses. The Faldo Course, designed by Sir Nick Faldo, plays 6,578 metres to a par of 72 and was named Portugal's Best Golf Course in 2016 by the World Golf Awards. It uses cacti, wild herbs and desert-scrub bunkers of crushed limestone in place of the heather and woodland Faldo is known for elsewhere, built around the natural contours of the land. The O'Connor Jnr. Course, designed by Christy O'Connor Jnr., sits in a neighbouring fertile valley, with lakes and watercourses running through mature, palm-planted landscaping that demand accuracy from every level of golfer. Between the two full courses is a 9-hole, par 3 Academy Course, floodlit for night play, the only course of its kind in Portugal. The Amendoeira Golf Academy runs training programmes for beginners through to touring professionals, using Trackman, BodiTrak and SAM PuttLab analysis technology with a maximum 5:1 student to teacher ratio, alongside individual, shared and playing lessons and multi-day golf schools. The resort hosts tournaments throughout the year, including the World Kids Golf Championship for junior golfers aged 7 to 21.
