A Casa do Avô

A Casa do Avô has been serving traditional Portuguese cooking since June 2007 from a rustic, family-run dining room in the small village of Vale de Parra, between Guia and the beaches of Praia da Galé and Salgados on the EM1281. The decor is countryside-cosy, and on fine days the terrace set among the fields is one of the restaurant's main draws. The kitchen builds its menu around Portuguese produce: bivalves from the Ria Formosa, fish landed along the local coast, and cuts like black pork and Mirandesa beef. The restaurant also grows some of its own fruit and vegetables on a small adjoining plot, which is where the figs, citrus and herbs on the table come from, and the wine list runs to a good choice of Algarve wines by the glass. Two set menus run alongside the à la carte offering. The Almoços Low Cost lunch, EUR 11.90 per person, pairs the day's couvert with a choice of fish or meat and runs Wednesday to Friday from 12.30 to 14.30. The Menu do Avô, EUR 23.90 per person, is a fuller dinner and weekend menu of a tapas selection, a fish or meat dish of the day and a dessert of the day, served 18.30 to 22.30. A Casa do Avô is open Tuesday evenings from 18.30 to 22.30, and Wednesday to Sunday for both lunch (12.30 to 14.30) and dinner (18.30 to 22.30), closing on Mondays.
