A Boneca

A Boneca is a restaurant in a natural rocky bay called Algar Seco, near the village of Carvoeiro. Its name comes from local fishermen, who saw a face in an unusual rock formation by the sea and called it a boneca, which means doll. In 1969 Grandpa Coelho grilled his first fish over charcoal here. The small wooden hut with no electricity or running water became an octagonal wooden house, and the fourth generation of the family now works in the business. The restaurant opens each year from April to the end of October. It is open from 11:30 to 23:00, with the kitchen running from 12:00 to 21:30, and is closed on Sundays. Lunch from 12:00 to 16:00 needs no reservation. Dinner reservations open up to 30 days ahead, and walk-ins are welcome from 20:15 when there is space.
