Praia dos Três Castelos adjoins the western end of Praia da Rocha in Portimão, named for three castle-like rock towers rising from the sand. A pedestrian tunnel through the headland links it to the main beach, and steps come down from the clifftop above, which keeps it noticeably quieter than its neighbour. The rock formations that give the beach its name stand right on the sand, and at low tide you can continue west along the shore towards Careanos and Vau. The setting is the same broad, cliff-backed sand as Praia da Rocha without the crowds directly behind. It suits sunbathers who want the Rocha scenery with more room, and photographers at either end of the day.
