Praia dos Pescadores is Albufeira's fishermen's beach, the sand directly below the old town where boats were hauled ashore for generations. The name records the fishing fleet that worked from this beach long before tourism arrived, and the wide golden sand still sits hard against the whitewashed centre. You reach it by steps from the old town or by the escalators that drop from the upper streets, and it runs west into Praia do Peneco with no real break. Cliffs close each end of the bay and the water is generally calm. It suits families and anyone staying centrally in Albufeira who wants the sea a few paces from the square.
