Praia dos Arrifes, right now
Praia dos Arrifes is a pocket-sized cove west of Albufeira, its shallow water broken by three sandstone stacks standing just offshore. It is among the smallest beaches on this coast, a wedge of south-facing sand with the stacks framing the view out to sea, which is why it is sometimes known locally as the beach of the three little rocks. The water stays shallow a long way out, easy for paddling, and the rocks give snorkellers something to work along. Its size means it fills very quickly in high season, and early arrival matters. It suits families with small children, and anyone content to swap space for shelter and shallow water.
