Praia de Monte Clérigo, right now
Praia de Monte Clérigo is a west-coast beach near Aljezur, fronted by a small cluster of holiday cottages climbing the hillside behind. It is one of the gentler introductions to the west coast, a broad sandy beach where the waves are often more manageable than at the famous surf spots nearby, and rock pools open up at the northern end at low tide. The little settlement behind the sand gives it a lived-in, family feel that is unusual on this coast, and access is level from the road. It suits families, rock-pool hunters at low tide, and beginner surfers finding their feet.
