Praia da Amoreira lies at the mouth of the Aljezur river, where dunes, a tidal lagoon and open Atlantic surf meet on the wild west coast. The river winds across the sand before it reaches the sea, forming shallow, comparatively warm channels where children paddle while the ocean side takes the full force of the Atlantic. Behind stand serious dunes, and the whole scene sits within the Costa Vicentina protected coastline. The two-beaches-in-one arrangement, river and ocean, is what people come for. It suits families on the river side, surfers on the ocean side, and walkers exploring the dunes in between.
