The beach watersports bases of the central Algarve pack everything into one stretch of sand: jet ski hire, parasailing high above the coast, wakeboarding, banana boats and ringos for the kids. Vilamoura, Albufeira, Armação de Pêra and Portimão have the busiest operations, most running from late morning until sunset all summer.
Jet skis rent by the half hour with no licence needed inside the marked zones; parasailing takes off and lands on the boat deck, so you do not even get wet unless you ask to. Everything is weather-dependent and busiest in August, so book the morning slots.

Before you book
Do I need a licence to hire a jet ski in the Algarve?
Not for supervised hire inside the operator’s marked zone, which is how the beach bases run. Minimum driving ages apply, usually 16 or 18, and younger children can ride as passengers.
Is parasailing scary?
Much gentler than it looks. Take-off and landing happen on the boat’s deck winch, the flight itself is quiet and smooth, and tandem flights let nervous flyers go up with a friend. Most operators fly children from around 6 with an adult.
