Santa Barbara Animal Help

Santa Barbara Animal Help (SBAH) is a small non-profit set up by Susan and Evelyne in 2016 to help abandoned dogs in Santa Bárbara de Nexe, in the Algarve. Unlike many shelters, SBAH does not run its own kennels. Instead it relies on a network of foster homes, or pays for dogs to stay in a local pet hotel where volunteers walk and care for them twice a day until a forever home is found. Every dog that comes into SBAH's care is taken to the vet for a check up, given any medication it needs, vaccinated, microchipped and sterilised before being rehomed. The charity is run entirely by unpaid volunteers and funded by donations, which cover vet bills, food, harnesses, leads, beds, medicines, toys and pet hotel accommodation, with no profit taken from any contribution. People can support SBAH by donating directly, sponsoring an individual dog, fostering, volunteering, or buying from its range of dog harnesses (from EUR 17.50), waterproof treat bags (EUR 15) and dog jackets, as well as through occasional fundraisers such as pet portrait posters and holiday greeting cards designed by its volunteers.
