Portugal Sail and Power

Portugal Sail and Power is an RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Accredited Training Centre based at the Five Gold Anchor Vilamoura Marina, with its office and classroom on the first floor of the marina building, directly opposite Pontoon O. The school was founded in 2001 in Vilamoura under Julian Mead, spent a brief period based in Albufeira, and returned to its home at Vilamoura Marina in 2018. It is now led by Dave Masters as RYA Training Centre Principal, supported by a team of hand-picked freelance RYA instructors covering every discipline through to Yachtmaster Ocean. The course programme spans Powerboat courses for RIBs and sports boats, Motorboat courses from beginner boat handling up to Yachtmaster certification, Personal Watercraft (jet ski) courses that take a first-time rider to confident in a single day, and Shorebased theory courses covering navigation, marine radio (SRC), first aid at sea and diesel engine essentials, aimed at both recreational sailors and those working towards commercial endorsements. Alongside training, Portugal Sail and Power also brokers a range of charter yachts and motor cruisers berthed in Vilamoura Marina for guests who want a skippered day on the water rather than a course. The school is rated 5 out of 5 on Google Reviews, with guests regularly naming Dave and freelance instructor Rob for their patience and clear teaching, and offers comprehensive support for course takers including airport collection, accommodation and local transportation.
